The teaser trailer for the Spanish horror prequel [REC] 3: Genesis appeared online today via Shock Til You Drop. The first film in the found footage series, [REC], focused on a TV reporter's experience with a zombie-like virus while trapped in an apartment building. [REC] 2 took the concurrent perspective of a SWAT team sent into the same situation. Both movies were co-directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, however Plaza will be doing this one on his own. [REC] 3, which will explain the origins of the virus, takes place at a wedding party gone wildly wrong (or right, for horror fans). Catch the trailer after the jump.
[REC] is one of my favorite horror movies and [REC] 2 was enjoyable (see my reviews here and here), so any tease of a third is tantalizing. The teaser reveals almost nothing in regards to the plot of Genesis, but those bloody shots at the very end are just wicked. I love the Aliens-esque vibe given off by the bride- directors Plaza and Balagueró did a great job of framing Manuela Velasco's B.A. performance in the first. It looks like Plaza and Balagueró's hectic (yet skillfully understandable) found footage style of the first two is back with a vengeance. Since the film takes place at a wedding reception, or at least part of it does, the setup is ripe for the occasion. Check out a preview of the wedding from hell, below (Google Reader users will have to visit this post in order to view the trailer).
[REC] 3: Genesis will hit Spanish theaters in March 2012. No U.S. release has been scheduled.
