Must Watch Trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Source: Apple Trailers

The theatrical trailer for director Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon hit the internet today via Apple Trailers. This massive robot-clashing epic, the third movie of the Transformers trilogy, centers on Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), his new lady friend (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), the Autobots, and the military ops team (lead by Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel) seen in the previous films as they fight to save Earth yet again. This time, however, a hidden Space Race era plot has surfaced, and there's a whole lot more Decepticons (or just evil robots, I'm not sure to be honest) to go around. See the official synopsis, from Apple, below.

Shia LaBeouf returns as Sam Witwicky in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. When a mysterious event from Earth's past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us.
I'm going to admit that this is one of the best trailers of the year so far. For better or for worse, it's classic Michael Bay- a multitude of enormous effects shots, enormous explosions, and just plain enormous things in general are here for the ogling. Plenty of downright ballistic action clips fill this trailer as well. Optimus Prime's sword swinging what have you and the giant worm/destroyer-of-buildings-thing end up coming off as almost average by the time the trailer is done. As always, the special effects look gritty and cutting edge. Oh, and it's been filmed in 3-D, so it'll all be in your face. On the flip side, the story looks a bit corny (read: the same thing as the other Transformers movies), but hey, at least this time Michael Bay has said that the scale will have a tighter character focus. Speaking of which, I don't usually look for strong acting in a Michael Bay movie, yet somehow Dark of the Moon has a fairly strong cast. I've never been much for Shia "nonononononono!!!" LaBeouf (who has?). Thankfully John Malkovich and Frances McDormand are involved this time around. Who knows how large of roles they have; at least we won't be seeing a couple of racist robot caricatures in their places. In its entirety, this looks to be one heck of an epic conclusion. Check out the trailer for yourself below!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Peter Cullen, and Tyrese Gibson, and will crash into theaters on July 1st, in 3-D.
